To be fair any one who owned this property could "get away with it". As its a heritage property no one is allowed to physically tear it down or even renovate it without approval. However anyone who owns it can let it fall down and be perfectly within their rights. It might mean morally they should do something but it is obvious that isn't a concern with the Irving. Who do you want to expropriate it...the province, the city? They don't want it. It would put them in the same position as the Irving's, having to spend the money that frankly they don't want to do.
Irving and no one else is responsible for this disrespectful act against our rail and war heritage.
At the public meeting last October 2007, Mayor Brad Woodside told the public how the Irving family TURNED DOWN an offer to buy the Train Station, completely restore and refurbish it, and turn the downstairs into a restaurant.
Irving insisted that the developer buy the entire half block of the Railyards facing York Street or else there was no deal.
Look at this neglected heritage of our province and Nation. This is what GREED looks like!
I just knew someone would come to the aid of the Irvings and explain why. This would probably be the same person in Nazi Germany who would defend the death camps with the logic "look at all the jobs those places are creating". I am starting to give up hope on the people of our beautiful province will ever stand up to the Irving's
Well sure didn't take long to get the Hitler comparisons out did it. Its a shame people like anonymous 7:19 wouldn't take the time and learn more about history before trying to make comparisons. Then at least they wouldn't sound quite so inane. But I am sure you have someone else you can blame for your lake of knowledge too.

No other landowner would be able to get away with this. Why can Irving?
It is time for the government to show they are not a puppet of the Irvings.
Please expropriate this endangered heritage building.
