These people receives a huge salary and drive in a fancy car.

At the end, they make decisions that just doesn’t make any sense.

By shutting down the Liquor Store in the Downtown core?

Did they take into consideration the students who goes to U.N.B. and St.Thomas?

Did they take any consideration the working poor or people on Social Assistant who don’t have a car?

Did they take into consideration that 3/4 of the bars in the City are in the Downtown Core?

Did they take into consideration the E-Plex will be constructed in the downtown core without a liquor store.

Did they take into consideration that the City prides itself by being the Green City so therefore people will have to use their car.

This is totally ridiculous.

Hey? I believe I know what’s going on?

The top floor of the building is the office of Communication New Brunswick.

By the matter they appoint many individuals to that department? Maybe they want the space downstairs?

So therefore the Government will still lease the space anyway.

Shawn Graham must intervene in this one!!!

Every instance, I went to this liquor Store? It's always very busy!!!!! Rich bureaucrats, students and the less fortunate use this service BIG TIME!!!!

You cannot have a bunch of appointed individuals make such A HUGE decision without consulting the public.

The people in the Downtown area are going through many sudden changes.

Mazzuca’s shuts down and now this???

Mayor Brad Woodside should speak out on this issue.

This is totally unacceptable!!!!

Hey funny pants, go up to the store up the hill and tell me which store the students go to the most. Yes it is a shame that the store downtown is closing but just because you will have to a little farther (Smythe Street) doesn't mean that it is a conspiracy. That store was the lowest money maker in the city and plus they did not want to sign a 10 year lease.

The Superstore is still pretty close and to be honest, I have yet to hear the statistics to suggest we need more people drinking and easier access to it. Convenient, yes. It makes the government coffers bigger, yes. But the abuse of booze causes more societal problems than anything else. I have a tough time getting behind you on this one Charles.

Charlie, I don't support you on this one, those individuals should not be wasting the taxpayers hard earned dollar by using the funding they receive each month to keep their drug or, drinking habbit/Addiction, going. They should make it extremely difficult for those on welfare to access Alcohol and other mind changing mood altering substances.

I totally agree with Spinks and Michael.

I am affraid you are way off on this one Charles. This blog is not funny at all.

They're closing the downtown liquor store? That is absolutely insane. I'm with you 100% on this one Charles. I don't live in Fredericton anymore but if I was, I would be close to downtown and I would be absolutely hopping mad over this. I'm not one to complain about stuff but you can be damn sure that I would talk to my local MLA about this one.

Keep on fighting the good fight Charles

Mr. LeBlanc, while I do side with you and agree that the decision seems ludicrous, I'm sure that the NB Liquor Corporation have thought long and hard and have done their homework. That said, not having a liquor store downtown is outrageous. Thus, I say that the NB Liquor Corp should open up a small boutique type store in the Kings Place Mall. It would not be a full service liquor store, but could sell a certain selection of wine, beer, and spirits. This would be a good alternative to fighting the crowds and traffic at the Superstore and would make fiscal sense as it would surely cost much less than the current set up on King St. I reckon this is exactly where NB Liquor should be going with this.. A similar set up is currently found on the ground floor of the assumption life building in Moncton.

If you are poor and have enough money for alcohol, your priorities are screwed up. As for students, easier access to alcohol is like adding gas to a fire.

While closing the liquor store on King Street will not place any undo hardship on me I have to agree with Charles to some degree. There is the small store at the Super Store of course but there is no reason why one of a similar size couldn't be in the down town area also. Frankly its about time the Liquor Commission started to allow at the very least beer and wine sales in more private places of business. The suggestion that closing a liquor store will make for less people drinking is a tenuous suggestion at best and as much as I hate to see abuse of the social assistance program by anyone I am not about to advocate checking peoples work status before allowing them a drink.

People should just make their own,it very simple

First we kick out the samosa vendors at the Market into the cold parking lot. Now we kick out the liquor store from the downtown. ONLY IN FREDERICTON!

It is time to allow beer and wine sales in small convenience stores.

Perhaps the Province panders to the Big Box Retail lobby by setting up stores in their malls while bleeding the downtown. Does the public not count as well?

It's like a 20 minute walk from the downtown store to the uptown one...seriously. Hurray for one less legal store pushing the last legal drug,

Mazzucas are old cranks and made me feel bad when I was a boy looking at fireworks.

you might be wack

The Liquor Corporation has to have a certain cost to revenue ratio in order to please the suits in charge of the province. This decision was made from the top down in order to fulfill this obligation. In the end, it's $600,000 more dollars the province makes because of the closure. No business will be lost at all. It's about 3 blocks from the downtown liquor store to the Smythe street location. You can't talk to your MLA because the decision was made by their boss.
