LOU MURPHY - HE DIED 10 YEARS AGO TODAY!!!!

Today < October 2th, > it's exactly 10 years that we lost the most honest, straight forward and good hearted politician this province has ever seen.

lou

I am very honoured that I came face to face with the great Lou Murphy.

I first came to Saint John in the late 80s so therefore I really didn’t know this man.

lou

I soon found out this he wrote as many letters to the editor as yours truly.

We became good friends and I used to pay him a visit in Milford one a month.

I would phone the guy and we would discuss different issues.

Who can forget the time he gave then Premier Frank McKenna a tongue lashing for the cuts at Saint Joe’s in the Legislature?

I have so many stories about this great man that maybe one day I’ll do a series in this paper.

The sad day that he took a heart attack and landed in the hospital.

His family allowed me to pay him a visit. There he was moving his head to the right and left. The family told me that he could hear me but couldn’t talk.

I quickly went to the washroom to dry my tears.

I grabbed him by the hand and told him that he was a great man and he helped a lot of people in Saint John.

I quickly turned away and waved to the family and left the hospital with tears.

He died a couple of days later and I must admit that I took his death very hard.

Donnie Coholan continues his tradition of lighting at MurphyVille during the Christmas Holidays and thousands of citizens still gathered around the huge
hill in Milford.

After the funeral, I confronted Frank McKenna and Doug Young and asked them what can we do for Lou Murphy?

frank

Name the Harbour Bridge - The Lou Murphy Bridge? But then again, we will have to remove the tolls because he fought hard to remove them.

The story that got him so upset was the time a funeral possession went over the bridge and they had to stop so each vehicle would give a quarter.

That was too much for Lou.

Doug Young quickly told Frank that if the province would agree to take control of the cost of the bridge?

There shouldn’t be any problem.

Well, that didn’t work out but the area of Milford open a Lou Murphy park for the kids. What a great honour to a man who used to give money to the kids after a school year.

Yes, we will never see the likes of this man again.

Today will indeed be a time to reflect on a man who did so much for its citizens.

May God Bless the great Lou Murphy!

CAN YOU ANSWER THIS QUESTION?????

dumpster

I'm not a rat. Never was one and never will be one. Now? That caretaker at 114 Brunswick Street took all the stuff from some tenants < bed and sofa and dumped it in a private dumpster like this one on top. Now? Is there a law against this? He's been doing it for a long time I guess and myself and two other people saw him dumped the items. So what can be done? Please let me know!!!!!

MIKE RYAN - A PERSON WITH A GOOD HEART!!!!

I decided the last minute to write a letter to the editor on this issue. This is the letter with pictures.

Outreach worker important

A few weeks ago, your paper printed a story about Mike Ryan < He's the guy with the grey hair sitting down >

Present Cheque

I felt obliged to share my views on this individual with readers

I didn't believe that poor people existed in the capital. This all changed when I began my six-month protest in a tent in front of the legislature

P1010069

Late in the evenings, I would notice these poor souls walking quietly beside the legislature looking for cigarette butts and then they would fade into the darkness of the night

P1010089

I love this city so much that I decided to move here

I volunteer my services at the soup kitchen and it's in that area that I hear the true and sad stories from the streets. I remember in the spring, I heard that a woman was four month's pregnant and living under a stairway. I decided to do something about it.

Charles 04_07_05 093
Charles 04_07_05 094

I was approached by a certain individual who punched me across the chest ordering me to back off

You see, these people are the so-called outcasts of society

Charles 04_07_05 103

They have their own little circle of friends. They will not trust too many people from the outside world

P1010072

This is where Mike Ryan comes in. Mike is an outreach worker. His job is to give a helping hand to the citizens who are living on the streets

He has the trust of these people so therefore he becomes the liaison between the poor and the government

I heard that his contract is up in March

Can you imagine a new worker doing his job? It's an impossible task. It will take years for that government worker to gain the trust from certain individuals

Charles 04_07_05 097

I chatted with a few activists about Mike Ryan and everyone is impressed by his work to help the poor

bp-mj-cl-may-18-05

George Piers, who runs the soup kitchen, told me that Mike Ryan is a great individual and he does his work very well. It would be a huge step backward for this city and province if Mike's contract is not renewed, so they should push for federal money

Just for the record, I never met Mike Ryan and don't know the guy but all of these stories I hear can't be all lies

Keep up the good work, Mike

THE IRVINGS - THEY WON'T HIRE PEOPLE WITH RED HAIR????

During my protest, I approached this guy to sign my petition asking the Lord Government to do a study on Ritalin.

Charles 04_07_05 118

His name is Mike and in a stern way, he told me - No! I don’t wish to sign your petition. < He worked for Tirus and those guys treated me like royalty during my protest >

RITALIN

Ritalin

I was used to people telling me they weren’t interested in signing and on many occasions I would come out with a comment.

This time around was no exception.

I quickly said - NO WONDER THE IRVINGS WON’T HIRE PEOPLE WITH RED HAIR!!!!

He looked at me and said - I also that same story.

At the end, he signed my petition and we became good friends.

But seriously, I heard many sad stories that blacks applied for a job and the Irvings would throw the applications in the garbage bin. I guess this racist process was ended in the mid 80s when they get caught.

irving_big

We know that J.D. Irving will promote racists supervisor such as the ones who works for Gulf Operators in Saint John.

The situation is much worse since they received the ok from the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission hat niggers and frogs can continue to be assaulted! Sh@t! I haven’t wrote about the commission for a long time. I feel better now! …lol…

But seriously? Lets go back to people with red hair??????

Have you also heard the same story that the Irvings don’t like people with Red Hair?

Charles 04_07_05 117

We know about the blacks and Acadians but Red hair???? That’s a strange one!!!

BERNARD LORD - ARE THESE NEW BRUNSWICK KIDS ALL DRUGGED????

Looks like Bernard got his wish. These kids are all smiling. They must be all drugged up on prescription drug and this is exactly the way Bernard Lord wants it!

BERNARD LORD - I DON'T CARE WHAT THE REST OF THE WORLD SAY-

Sounds like Bernard Lord don't care what the rest of the world are saying - His stand of drugging and killing of our young children in New Brunswick will continue till October 15th, 2007!!!!!

FDA links fatal risk, children's drug

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

September 30, 2005

WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration warned doctors yesterday about reports of suicidal thinking in some children and adolescents taking Strattera, a drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Manufacturer Eli Lilly & Co. announced that a black-box warning will be added to the drug's label. Such a warning is the most serious that can be added. The company said

In a statement, the FDA said it "is advising health care providers and caregivers that children and adolescents being treated with Strattera should be closely monitored for clinical worsening, as well as agitation, irritability, suicidal thinking or behaviors, and unusual changes in behavior, especially during the initial few months of therapy or when the dose is changed."

Eli Lilly said it provided the FDA results from Strattera clinical trials of 1,357 patients that found five youths taking the medication reported having suicidal thoughts, while none of 851 patients taking a placebo reported having any. One young person taking Strattera attempted suicide, but survived, company and FDA officials said.

There was no evidence of increased suicidal thoughts in adults taking Strattera, which also goes by the generic name atomoxetine, the Indianapolis-based company said.

"The actual risk is very low," said Dr. Thomas Laughren, head of the FDA's psychiatric drug unit. Despite the warning, he said, "FDA still views Strattera as an effective drug." At the FDA's request, Eli Lilly will publish a guide for doctors and pharmacists to give to people who are prescribed Strattera.

The warning is the result of a larger FDA review of psychiatric drugs and their possible association with suicide.

Old drug studies are being reviewed for occurrences of suicides and suicidal thoughts. Last year, the FDA ordered warnings on all antidepressants that they "increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior" in children.

Strattera won praise from some doctors and parents when it became available because, unlike Ritalin, it is not a stimulant that can be addictive. But its chemical makeup is similar to certain antidepressants.

A review of other ADHD drugs continues, Laughren said.

CHARLES PERSON OF THE WEEK!!!!

Need I say more why Bernard Richard is the person of the week! The artist WCIE picture says it all! Keep up the good work Bernard!!!

Muzzle-ber

In the past, it took a lot of thinking for my person of the week but not this time.

I wish to say un gros Merci Beaucoup to Bernard Richard on behalf of the over 40,000 kids in this province who are force on Ritalin.

Many of them will commit suicide or they will end up on heavy drugs and many of them will die.

Does Bernard Lord care? Of course not! The drugging and the killing of our children will continue till October 15th, 2007!!! Good work Bernard Richard!!!!

CY LEBLANC AND TREVOR HOLDER!!!!!

RLeBlanc

I confronted two more MLA’s today about boarders and roomers rights!!!

The first victim was Cy LeBlanc < P.C. MLA > for Memramcook- Dieppe. After I told Cy of the hardship the poor people have to go through?

He quickly answered - Sa pas D’allure!!!!

Which in translation means in a way- What you just said doesn’t make any sense!!!

Minutes later, I bumped into Trevor Holder < P.C. MLA > for Saint John. Now…

Charles 04_07_05 057

Here’s an MLA who would know about the situation of the poor.

His answer was- Why would the roomer be different from the Tenant who lives in an apartment? He promised me that he would see Bard Green about this issue?

I wonder who’s going to be next on my list? You gotta live living in the Capital!!!!

ROCKWOOD PARK - THE FUTURE SITE OF ANOTHER LARGE GAS PIPELINE?????

Please forward this to your friends and relatives.

r3
r2

Hello,

I am a life long resident of Saint John and of the city's North End.

I have used Rockwood Park on many occasions over my 60+ years.

I have walked and hiked all the trails and pathways in the park and I believe that the destruction of the park lies with projects such as this.

Already we have a distracting power line running through the middle of the park, breaking up the unspoiled wilderness feel of many trails.

Adding a pipeline to this space would not only cause more trees to be removed, but also require the digging of earth and removal of rock, and building or widening of access roads would further spoil the natural setting.

Rockwood park was created over 100 years ago for the enjoyment of nature by all residents.

I ask you to consider the future of North America's largest inner-city park when you consider running a pipeline through the heart of it, which will further detract from it's appeal.

This would also set a precedent for more pipelines to follow in the future.

We should be looking to remove the exsisting high tension wires, not adding more industrial hardware to our park.

r1

I have read that your spokesman Mr. Rankin is from Halifax, I ask him what he would think of pipelines being run through Point Pleasant Park, or the Public Gardens?

r4

Do you think that this will improve the quality of life of this city's residents?

There already exsists a pipeline route(s) in Saint John, what is wrong with those?

Would this come down to the fact that it would be more complicated and cost a bit more money than running through the middle of a nature reserve such as Rockwood?

Regards,
John

r6

In today's Telegraph Journal is an article on a pipeline that may or may not be run through Rockwood Park.

r8

There is talk of possibly more pipelines following the same route as this one, and they have already stated that a 30 meter wide swath would need to be cut in the treeline.

r6

In addition to this is the need for access roads, removal of trees, earth and rock, in short permanent and disfiguring scars on the natural beauty of the park.

There are other pipeline routes in the city that can be used, so lets make they use those and not carve up any more of our park!

My father and I have written emails to protest the construction of the proposed natural gas pipeline, please do the same if you care for the future of Rockwood Park.

r1

The article also states that our Mayor knows nothing about this, so lets do our part to inform him and the rest of council.

Let them know that this in not acceptable.

I have attached a copy of the email my father sent, feel free to modify it to suit you and add more or create your own.

The email address given in the newspaper is: nbpipeline@jacqueswhitford.com This is to the engineering company heading up the project.
