DAN ROBICHAUD WON THE DEBATE!!!!!!!

Hooton

I had no choice but to watch Rogers television and in my view? Dan Robichaud from the NDP camp won the debate and a very close second was Dr. Ed. Doherty.

Hooten was reading too much from the papers in front of her.

Dan Robichaud spoke very cleary. I believe that we haven't seen the end of this guy in Saint John. He looked pretty sharp with his comments.

Dr. Ed Doherty was also on the ball with his answers.

You could tell from what Robert Jones reported that all the Hooten supporters were on the front row.

She said that she will handle the poverty issue in her riding but I cannot forget the fact that Bernard Lord had 6 years to do it!!!

This is my opinion!!!!!

Charles weak and I mean weak story. To say Michelle was third makes me laugh. I guess studdering doesnt' count in speeches anymore. Charles Dan was weak in his speech, just like you are getting weak on your stories.

I'm glad he brought up the fact that Hooten is a traitor, but he didn't make too strong a case for himself. Dr. Ed won. Hooten spoke well, but the more polished you are, the more phony you seem.

I like this one. It was in the comments section of another blog----

Unfortunately, Hooton did give the smoothest performance last night. But what boggles me is how she can defend the Lord government with a straight face.

She was definitely on the defensive all night and did lose her cool a couple of times. What would you expect in trying to defend a government that has completely ignored Saint John during the course of their mandates.

Dr. Doherty did stumble on some questions, but came back with a couple of punches and finished strong with his closing remarks.

The NDP candidate did surprise me. He did much better than expected. Even he was surprised at his performance.

I have to give the Tories one tip of the hat for last night. They got there early to fill the front seats so they could give Hooton a standing ovation at the end of closing remarks (about her daughters) and made sure that the cameras caught it (as well as to hide the majority of people that did not stand up).

The really unfortunate aspect of this debate was that not even 20% (approx.) of the over 300 hundred people there could actually vote in Saint John Harbour.

The Tories brought down every staff member from most of the Cabinet Ministers (the Liberals did bring down some staff but not from every one of their MLAs in the province) and a bunch of Young PCs from outside the riding. They were loud but not necessarily more. From the mezzanine, you could definitely see the pockets of supporters: the Tories had the front and stranded others in the back, but the majority were favoring the Liberal candidate (an older crowd that could not shout as loud) and there were some NDP as well. The Liberals and the NDP did applaud together anytime Hooton got picked on (with reason).

One big "faux pas" that Hooton did is insult the media. She said she was a whipping post for them, specifically the "Talk of the Town" radio show. As a politician, especially one defending a "crash & burn," "shoot ourselves in the foot" administration, what can you expect. If Hooton can't stand that heat, she should get the "booton" out of the kitchen.

Also, the only offense (and defense) she basically had all night was "Vote for me 'cause I'd be in government!" accompanied by figures and odd bible quotes. The question here is; Can Saint John endure more of the same of the last six years, just another Lord crony basically helpless to do Lord's bidding and nothing but?

On election day, the constituents of Saint John Harbour should not fall for a silver tongue and blond hair. They should remember what this government forgot . . . them.

The Lord government did not support them, then they should not support him.

Michelle Hooton is the BEST. Everybody vote for her because she's a Babe

You've gotta be kidding me. Robichaud could hardly string a sentence together. The only time he made a point was when he was challenging Hooton on leaving her council post early, and then he was drowned out for the most part.

Mark Davis, are choosing an MLA or playboy bunny. Make up your mind. Bernard Lord is no Hugh Hefners. Far from it. Then even if he was we need a Premier and not Hugh Hefner.

You want a Babe for an MLA?

You make an interesting observence charlie.
I tend to agree there really was no clear winner in this debate but overall the lead does point toward the NDP as he had the most to loose with the crowd,Not bad for the underdog.

Hooton was smoothest and came off as the best with the exception of the slam to CFBC. That was dumb.

The others weren't bad, Hooton simply looked and sounded the best in the debate.

Hooton was too scripted. There was no passion in her delivery. She came across as a wooden dummy who was pre-programmed with all those dollar figures. To defend Lord government is an impossible job.

The debate was somewhat edited; you could only hear the cheers for Hooton not for anyone else. The noise made towards comments not liked when Hooton made made were also edited. This debate is nothing to be proud of by anyone; they got off track. The radio show next Tuesday will certainly come off less prepared. Leave your notes home. Give hOOton the bOOton. Lost respect for the Lord Government and her decision not to back Councillor to get more information, so we all could be informed.

Michelle (Chase) Doherty-Hooton knows exactly what she's doing. If she isn't elected Nov. 14th then she still has her position with the city. If she had any integrity or sense of morals, she would have stepped down as deputy mayor. Campaigning full time can only mean less time spent doing her job as depty mayor & that means representing the city less!! Gee, I wonder where 'her' allegiances lie?

Under that pearly white veneer lies a person driven by how it benefits her so don't be mislead by biblical quotes, family value statements or anything else she 'reads' as it's all window dressing.

Sixteen months as deputy mayor is hardly sufficient ammo to think of becoming an MLA. We need a person with good business accumen who has dealt with the public in a major way, not someone who used to sell flowers or pasta. Someone who can think on their feet & not attack when the pressure is on. Perhaps Ms. Hooton needs a course in media training to keep her emotions neutral.

I wonder what her 'crystal ball'' is telling her these days!!
