AN EMAIL FROM THE STUDENTS AT UNBSJ!!!!!!

Hoot-bodygaurd

Dear Mr. LebLanc,

Below is a letter the students of the unbsj calss are sending the TJ everyday until it get published. We sent it to ron barry and people have to know the truth the telegraph journal is not gonna down play the truth about what happeneded.

We want to correct the story about what went on in our class at UNBSJ. The paper did not get their facts right. Candidates were asked to talk about their party and policies - not to campaign. Ms. Hooton did the opposite.

The first question was about small business taxes. She answered rudely and told the student "that she had been a business woman since she was 19 and that he did not know what he was talking about".

The second question asked why she was keeping her position and salary as deputy mayor while running for provincial election. She said the student was "wrong" to suggest that she was not doing her job properly. She was quite forceful in her response to us. She then pointed her finger at him and told him not to roll his eyes at her.

Another student brought up the LNG question. Ms. Hooton said she was against two things, first the deal and second the process. It became clear from her discussion that by the second vote she was only against the process not the deal itself. A visiting Professor pointed out the contradiction, but was asked to leave questioning to the students.

At the end of the class the student with the handwritten sign reading "Rooting against Hooton" was approached and asked to give her the sign. Her request was rather intimidating given the three male campaign workers with her.

Our greatest concern with the Telegraph Journal story is that it downplays the forceful and aggressive tone of Ms. Hooton’s talk. We were left feeling under attack.

Sincerely,

The students of Canadian Politics

This was shortend do to 250 but alot has been left out.

What more people need to know that Lord, his newest candidate Ms. Hooton and rest of the gang are phony. Phony, phony.

Please Saint John Harbour folks send a strong message on November 14 that we are fed up with these phonies.

Just to let the students know the public is getting the message on Michelle Hooton.

some folks I've been chatting with said they had listened to the radio debate and desided to give the Liberals an 18 Month trial and test the waters as the safest bet.

Some said they were hoping for something different from Mrs.Hooton in a more relaxed situation but felt they did not get what they were after.
she is still representing Mr.Lord & herself, NOT this riding and it's interests.

Mind you in all honesty there were a few who made it clear the only reason they will test the Liberals and not the New Demacrats for this period of time as they normaly would is the very real fear of splitting the votes.

The feeling is there are a lot of votes going to the Liberals for this reason, Most of all to send a clear message to the Bernard Lord Government that his time has been and gone!!

Change must take place on a provincial level and this is just the first step in that process.

Lets hope these people realize and recognize they indeed DO have a voice and a vote to be heard LOUD & CLEAR it is high time for change!

We know the truth and we do not believe Hooton's version. We also understand your frustration; this should not of happen to you. Happy you called the CFBC and the professor confirmed your story and also tapes don't lie. The citizens and taxpayers of Saint John feel the same way. Telegraph Journal didnot cover the facts in this incident at UNB,only Ms Hooton's version. We feel the same when things are not covered on the Fair Taxation issues and only the negative spin is what is written true or not and people like to believe the worst. This is exactly how the citizens of Saint John who want fair taxation feel. Lies make the paper. They take a version they like and print it.

Not everyone is going to only read the paper and believe this stuff is true; unfortunately just a few that believe it is too much. Give Hooton the Booton.

She clarified some things on the radio today, her version, comical.

Yes Hooton read her "rescinding" speech; (Ivan Court wanted to rescind) Ivan wanted to talk he wasn't allowed. They had a vote but it was a controlled vote no risk. Next time Hooton gave her "move on" speech and again they would not let Ivan Court speak.
She met reporters and smiled from ear to ear. Phony and well staged. The last time Ivan Court made another attempt just to revisit the tax deal to ask legal for advice and get fair tax dollars. Hooton conveniently was not there and no would second Councillors Courts attempt to get fair taxes. Now here we are trying again to swallow the bull Hooton has thrown our way since the Deputy Mayor and now the by-election. This deal was made a couple of years ago but not all parties were informed. Nice job but we know better. Give her and Lord what they deserve. Vote Dr. Doherty. Don't split votes this time. Booooo Hooton.

The TJ isn't going to print such a letter, it would have been nice to have a name attached to it. Without a name no newspaper would run it, and nobody should take it without a grain of salt.

8:14 is right. There is no way the paper will print an anonymous letter and neither should they. If the students put a name with contact information so the paper can reach them to confirm they indeed wrote it, they would have a far better chance of having it published. Otherwise they can send it every day until the end of time. This story hasn't had a lot of media attention because no one seems to want to put their name out there. No media oulet worth their salt will print or broadcast unsubstantiated remarks. As time goes on there becomes even less of a chance of this being picked up. Just a suggestion UNBSJ students if you really want to have it picked up, come forward. When was the last time you saw an anonymous letter in the TJ? It's beeen a long, long time and that's to keep the letter writer accountable and to reduce the chance of the paper getting sued for printing something which could be libelous.

There is an assumption here that letter has no name attached to it. It is not here but the one sent to Telegraph might.

Maybe, obviously the writers view Charles site. Is there a name with contact information sent to the TJ folks?

There are 17 names attached to the letter that went to the TJ and more people are still coming forward to support it.

"Hoodwinking Hooton", that's all I have to say about it.

Why would they send their names to the TJ but not here? Press is press, as a skeptic it seems 'convenient' that the names are sent to the paper, which refuses to print their statement, but NOT released here, where it gets all kinds of publicity. Can we see ONE name? Where are we, fantasyland?

Don't forget? We can trace to individual comments. No one is safe from the information Highway but it's up to the person if they wish to leave their name.

There have been several names attached to the letter as a copy was sent to all students in the class. The letter gained overwhelming support from the class and the proffesser. When sent to the TJ those names were attached, it was not anonymous.

Good to speak up and be heard. Lord and Hooton don't listen; just promise but don't deliver except in times of desperation like right now. We want that seat it is ours, we gave this and you must vote for us. We don't listen to people who only work for the billionaires. Don't be bought, vote Dr Doherty and give Hooton the Booton!
