What difference would it make! You would still be calling for Liberal victories all over the place, regardless of the final count.

Since when are you media? It's free speech you know, blog away!

You have no obligation not to blog. Do you have press credentials? If they won't respect you, don't respect thier arbitrary and uninformed rules.

I would have to agree. Why not blog? But if you choose not to then I for one will respect your decision even though my day will not be complete without it.

Many of us will miss you blog on Monday, but we are at a loss to understand why you can't blog on your computer on Monday??
Couldn't you maybe just blog and talk about anything else if the elction is the problem?
I agree with 3:07 p.m. I didn't know you were the media, although you'd like to think so sometimes.
Golly Gee.

Charles you seem to be somewhat confused again. You are not the media, you are a blogger of informational tidbits. Media actually cover a story in full.
Your assumption that you are anything other is well, silly.

It is not easy for to distinguish between reality and blogging, so I will point out that the world has as many senseless blogs as it does senseless newspapers.

Your blog is in your opinion and the newspapers carry the opinions of you know who!

Patronizing yourself as actual media is a complete insult to those who have studied the finer aspects of journalism and investigative reporting.

moi? the media??? ...lol...that's a good one!!!! I was told that I could be in trouble if the blog is on the air on election day.

Charles, to help patronize you since some don't like you doing it yourself, you ARE 'media' by definition. All stories, even newspaper stories are 'somebodies opinion'. You're stories come from a certain point of view, but usually include as many of the facts as you'd find in any newspaper or radio report.

However, WHO said you'd be in trouble is the central issue? It certainly isn't like television stations are going to 'not talk about the election' on election day. That would be most unusual. Since you can't stop people from posting the discussions will still go on, which means there is no reason you couldn't add to it. That being said, if its just plain 'your opinion' to not do a blog that day, that's your decision.

Actually there are certain rules that apply to the internet as well as official media. Posting of polls on election day is prohibited ,also, 323 prohibits transmitting any advertising information, and posting results from one riding where the polls are still open in another is also prohibited.

From the elections Canada website:

Section 329 of the Canada Elections Act prohibits transmitting the results of the vote in any electoral district to the public in another electoral district before the polling stations close in that other electoral district. Therefore, the current state of the law is that this provision is in force for the 39th general election. On May 20, 2005, the British Columbia Court of Appeal held that section 329 of the Act was constitutional. This decision has been appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The court Case involved Paul Bryan who posted results from Atlantic Canada on his website before polls closed in B.C. back in 2000. He was convicted and fined $1000.

So if you have $1000 and want to have a day in court, by all means start your own blog and post away. I hear some are talking about breaking the ban.....but the law actually specifically references the internet. Not saying it's right, but it is the law.

There is no problem blogging as long as no polls, advertizing, or results are posted before the polls close in B.C.

oh and he most certainly can stop people from commenting if he choses anonymous......one little click in the blogger settings turns that feature off! :D

Thanks Politics and that's exactly what I'm going to do Monday morning!!!!

If a ruling is only in appellate court, then the decision of the lower court still stands. However, it would only be for British Columbia. That being said, if you can turn off comments then you can certainly ensure that no advertising, polling, or results are given. People will still be able to see information from the past days, so it really makes no difference.

Anonymous....you are free to believe what you like. However, I checked with Elections Canada, and since the ruling has been overturned by the courts, the Blackout rules are in effect for this election. Don't believe me?? Call elections Canada:

As said, if you simply don't advertise, poll or post results then there is nothing to stop you from blogging. Do you think all the newspapers aren't going to be printed? You think all the television stations are going to avoid all conversation about the election-that's ALL they'll be talking about. To think that somehow it means all bloggers have to shut down for the day is ludicrous, I've never even seen any other blogger state that. This blog isn't just about federal politics, so there's no legal reason not to have a blog. Just disable the comments section.

PoliticsNB said...

Actually Anonymous
you're the one that said he could do whatever he wanted as he was not "real media"

All he's planning on doing is shutting off the comments. If he chooses to blog, that's up to him. As long as he's not advertizing, posting new polls, or giving results before B.C. polls close.....no problem.

I'm wondering why you are making an issue out of it.

Actually if he chose to take it completely off line that's his choice also......relax....not your business or problem.

Oh and while i'm at it...didn't you say:
"If a ruling is only in appellate court, then the decision of the lower court still stands. However, it would only be for British Columbia"

Is this your way of saying you were WRONG anonymous??? Apology accepted.........LOL
