Why on earth should a company be charged a vendor fee for selling things on their PRIVATE property. The Golden Ball and Kents do not belong to the city and therefore they can do whatever they want to on their own business properties, plus they pay property and other taxes. For some guy who wants to start up a hotdog cart and sell on the streets of Saint John, the city has every right to charge a vendor fee. The city would have no other method of getting their entitled dues from hotdog/pretzel/sausage carts, as they do from all other legit businesses. A business is a business - the cart vendors shouldn't get a free ride when all other businesses have to pay to do business.
Fredericton should start selling busker licenses. I don't know if Halifax sells them but it wouldn't surprise me if they do. It would keep the busking under control. Keep in mind though, that somebody sitting on a milk crate, doing nothing to entertain, just begging for money, is not a busker.
