NDP Leader Allison Brewer was turned away from the steps of the New Brunswick legislature Monday when she tried to hold a news conference about respect for the house.
Turns out there are rules against election campaigning on the grounds of the legislative assembly.
NDP Leader Allison Brewer was asked to move her campaign news conference from the steps of the legislature.
Brewer's campaign staff set up the conference, complete with campaign posters and a podium. But before Brewer could get started, the legislature commissionaire asked them to move to the sidewalk.
Lyndsey Gallant, provincial secretary for the NDP, said she didn't know about the rule but she added the mistake didn't constitute a bad beginning for the party's election campaign.
"I think everything went as planned and as scheduled," she said. "There was just a little problem there, but I don't think it was a big deal as far as we were concerned."
The theme of Brewer's conference was accountability and respect for the legislature. Brewer said the Conservatives and Liberals turned the legislative body into a "circus" during the last session.
"We will bring back to the legislature leadership, balance and accountability," said Brewer. "We will work every day to respect the legislature and the hopes and dreams of all New Brunswickers."

Gee, you'd think somebody would have asked Elizabeth Weir before they went ahead. I don't know anything about politics but even I would have thought that campaigning in the legislature wouldn't be allowed.
That's just Dan being Dan and doing what Dan does best.
Drilling it to the little person.
