What am I missing?

Not missing much. It's technically not even the Canadian flag. The red stripes would have to be to the left and right of the maple leaf, not above and below. There's no problem.

just like the sign says "used" as in "NOT" the real thing.

No worries charlie you cannot replicate the REAL thing.

Charles we were trying to show support for our troops. Are we doing something wrong?
If our support offends you we will take down the Flag down tommorrow.I am very sorry. WE are not perfect.
We had a big pole and a big Flag and we are very proud to be Canadian's. By the way my wife's brother died in Bagdad,Iraq in October 30, 2006.
"Sgt. Michael Todd Seeley". He was 27 years old and a proud Canadian.
We miss him.

Charles, I believe in fredom of speech and expression. We need Activist, to keep us informed. Thiugh,I do not think that I am the person that the country needs to worry about. You can take down the blog or leave it up.
The choice should be yours.
Also I contacted the Canadian Solder from base Gagetown that gave me the flag to fly. He said it was a banner and the soldiers that are leaving for Afganistan apprecaite and know my intentions were good and were never meant to do anything wrong.
Charles I found out about your blog from the radio station here in Fredericton. They caled me right away and they know me. They said they knew that I would never knowingly try to upset anyone. As I have said before the Flag will be down today.
Thank you for your understanding,
Jim Gilbert

I wouldn't take it down. I would keep it there. I didn't know what it meant.

If our soldiers say it's a banner than it must be ok???
