More bilingual RCMP on the way for N.B. Last Updated: Friday, April 27, 2007 | 2:39 PM AT CBC News The RCMP is increasing its French language capabilities in New Brunswick, as 27 new bilingual officers are completing their training in the province.
Inspector Kevin Leahy says the RCMP lives up to its obligations under the Official Languages Act, though, he adds, any new recruits who can speak English and French will probably wind up in New Brunswick.
"We get first consideration for all bilingual recruits coming out of depot because of our unique situation where we're required to provide services in both official languages," he said.
Leahy says all the officers are francophone, and have received 10 weeks of English language instruction to become bilingual.
