Two family members quickly walked out and you could hear their emotion in the court room...

I cannot believe this! This guys is smart enough to plan this murder. Smart enough to take the victim's car as the get away car. Take off to the states. Get across the border carrying enough weapons to kill everyone at the border crossing when we can't even get through the border with a water gun. AND HE IS UNFIT TO STAND TRIAL. Who is the stupid ones in this situation? I'll give you a hint ....it's not DESPRES...he knew what he did that terrible night and he knows what he is doing now. The court fell for it!!!!!
New Brunswick is looking at building an incinerator to dispose of animal byproducts to help deal with new federal rules aimed at preventing the spread of mad cow disease.
Animal parts that are at high risk of carrying bovine spongiform encephalopathy, such as brains, skulls and spinal cords, will be banned from all animal feeds produced in Canada effective July 12, complying with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's enhanced feed ban.
Anonymous 6:31....I would suggest that you do a little research on a mental hospital VS Jail as a murderer. You will see a BIG difference from the beds they sleep in to the treatment they receive. I would vote to go to the mental hospial. No comparison at all!
Without any doubt, Despres is different from most members of society. People just don't commit the atrocities he did generally. However there's a distinct difference between being mentally ill and not knowing the difference between right and wrong. There is zero evidence that Despres didn't know that the murders he committed were wrong. That's why he SHOULD stand trial. This is a dangerous precedent but then again Fredericton judges have been setting a lot of dangerous precedents lately. IE : giving a drunk driver who killed a bicyclist and then fled the scene house arrest. The families of the victims have waited two years for this?!?
The judge didn't decide that he didn't know right from wrong - she decided that he is not fit to stand trial yet because he is currently too mentally ill to have a proper defence. This has no bearing on his guilt.
And therein lies the problem. What was his mental capacity at the time of the killings? If he did it, did he know what he was doing was wrong? Well he fled the scne of the crime for the U.S. so that would seem to indicate some kind of understanding. This all just stinks and seems indicative of our justice system as of late. The criminals get treated with kids gloves while the victims and their families are on the outside looking in. I know anon, part of the decision makes sense to ensure a fair trial but it still stinks.
Does anyone care to now fess up to their ignorance? Depres's trial resumes tomorrow.
He didn't get away with murder, the justice system hasn't collapsed, the four horsemen have not arrived...the mental fitness regime worked as it should and the trial resumes.
Just a side note, Tanya, mental disorder has nothing to do with stupidity (or half the posters here have a "mental disorder"). Many people with mental disorders are highly functioning individuals--some people may have extreme dillusions that no one ever even knows about. Just because you are experiencing a scism between reality and perception doesn't mean that you couldn't plan or commit a complicated crime. That said, do I believe Depres is faking mental disorder? Damn straight I do.

The man seems very disturbed. Luckily the judge isn't letting the crown exploit that to put him in jail without adequate defense.
Tanya, you're right on!
i dont know. why do people think he won? would you rather be in jail or a mental hospital? cant say which i would pick. might lean to jail actually.
