I noticed more people are getting married this way lately. Cheaper I guess???

Nope, not cheaper. Churches don't make you pay, neither do courthouses. Big cost comes from reception after, and that's got nothing to do with courthouse vs church wedding.
i think it's that it's wedding season (summer), and, year after year, fewer and fewer people feel connected to a church.
