PRINCE EDWARD ISLANDERS TO VOTE NOVEMBER 28 ON NEW PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION SYSTEM!!!

peimap

PRINCE EDWARD ISLANDERS TO VOTE NOVEMBER 28 ON NEW PROPORTIONAL
REPRESENTATION SYSTEM (www.vivenewbrunswick.com)

The PEI government has set November 28 as the date when islanders will decide in a plebiscite whether to replace first past the post voting with a mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting system. Electoral Reform Commissioner Norman Carruthers proposed the MMP system in a report sent to the Premier in December 2003.

PEI will become the second province to vote on a new proportional voting system.

British Columbia held the first referendum on May 17 with 57% of the voters supporting the proportional voting system proposed for that province.

The Carruthers MMP proposal for PEI has received high marks from Fair Vote Canada.

For more details on the FVC assessment of the proposed MMP system for PEI and proportional voting systems proposed in three other provinces:

FREDERICTON METHADONE CLINIC - GOOD WORK FROM GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES????

Last Sunday, I was volunteering at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen.

methadone

It’s a great atmosphere and it passed the time for moi.

There’s always something to do at the Soup Kitchen.

On a few occasions someone would drop over some food or sandwiches from an event.

Last Sunday was no exception but it was different.

Some individuals showed up with sandwiches and told the staff that it was from the Methadone clinic.

Did I heard the word - Fund raising????

Fund raising for a methadone clinic????

Sounds like a good idea to me! This should have been done years ago because we have a major Dilaudid problem in this Province.

junkie

Today, I walked into the Detox section of the Methadone clinic and asked some questions.

cartoon_cliche_methadone

They weren’t fund raising.

One client asked if it was possible for the clients and workers to go for a bike ride and that’s what they did.

A 30 km ride!!!

My first question -Were the government employees paid time and a half???

The answer was – No!!! They did it from the goodness in their heart!

I heard some bad stories once the methadone clinic was transferred to Government hands at the Old Victoria Hospital.

methadoneMedicine

It used to be located a few blocks away and they had the help from a nurse from U.N.B.!

Well? Other clinic in Miramichi, Moncton and Saint John should follow the same fine example as the one in the Capital!

Good work!

BERNARD LORD - GREAT IDEA TO COLLECT $20,000,000!!!!!!

I LOVE THIS COMMENT FROM A READER!!!!

Do I miss the CBC? I do simply because otherwise in Saint John we have no local up-to-date newscasts, and at least with the CBC I was getting the morning and evening news sent to me by e-mail, and I could link to New Brunswick stories.

Quite often I get calls from the Telegraph Journal to ask if I subscribe to their newspaper, and of course they know I don't otherwise they wouldn't be calling my number. They always attempt to offer me the current special if I subscribe. Normally I cut them off and tell them I am simply not interested. The last time they called they told me if I subscribed my name would be put into a draw to receive $500.00 worth of gasoline from Irving, and I told them I am noting interested in receiving anything from Irving, period. Sometimes when they call I ask them the question, "why would I pay Mr. Irving to read yesterday's news, when I can go online and read today's news, today. Things were different when we had an evening paper, The Evening Times Globe, because at least some of what was in the paper actually happened that day, now all we get is stale news in the Telegraph Journal. On top of that both Moncton and Fredericton have their own newspapers while Saint John now is stuck with a newspaper which has very little Saint John content, and instead it is basically a provincial newspaper. If I buy a Saint John newspaper I want mainly Saint John news.

There should be a law against one family owning and controlling what news people are entitled to receive. Newspapers are supposed to be unbiased, but when you have one of the wealthiest family's in Canada owing all of the media you can be sure that most negative stories about that family are not going to make it into those publications.

CBC - DO YOU MISS IT????? < OVER 40 DAYS LOCKED OUT!!!! >

I feel this issue has been forgotten by the public so lets asks the question?

state-run-cbc-state-employee2
Charles 04_07_05 073

Do you miss CBC Radio or CBC Television?

I asked the questions on a few occasions since the locked out began over 40 days ago.

I get the feeling that not too many people missed it.

Myself, I am a news freak and I always watch the news at 6:00pm! I changed the channel from ATV to Global news.

Charles 04_07_05 044
Charles 04_07_05 075

I forgot about CBC! Maybe it’s because I have other things on my mind?

Who knows?

Maybe as many other issues in life, I adjusted to a world without necessities? So maybe this is what's happening in this case?

One day, I noticed this guy communicating through the windows in the media building next to the Legislature.

P1010088
P1010090

Hey? I'm certain they wish to return to work!!!!

One person told me < female > that she truly missed CBC!

I might add the individual lives in na na land. She lives in the country < Queenstown > and I believe that CBC radio is the only connection in the rural areas.

Speaking of nowhere land?

I heard from many Acadians that they truly missed CBC in the north Shore.

This include Radio and Television.

I wanted to find out what was going on in this locked out?

I walked up Regent Street and met the protesters a couple of weeks ago.

I stayed with one of them for around 25 minutes and walked the picket line while asking questions.

The bottom line in this dispute is seniority.

Did you know the youngest worker who has seniority is 42 years old?

These workers are fighting for our future generations.

CBC8

Management wish to hire workers by contract!

My God? Isn’t this Irving’s style? They better get rid of this picture?

CBC6

You see? Management want to hire someone for a six month to a one year contract.

Do you know what this means?

Backstabbers and rats will be granted an extension to their contract.

In 20 years from now? There would be no seniority therefore no unions.

It would be a terrible atmosphere to work in!

It would be like working for the Irvings!

CBC6
CBC3

I’m surprised this locked out isn’t over yet because there seem to be MP’S stopping by in support of the workers.

CBC2
CBC1
CBC4

So what do you think?

Do you miss CBC?

I truly miss people like this guy.

CBC9

but most definetely not this guy on the left -

CBC10

These days the workers are blogglers!!! Question? By being Blogglers? Did they increase or lowered their standards of Journalism? I say they climbed the ladder!!!!...lol

Chinese Govt. Tightens Its Grip on Online News
By The Associated Press
BEIJING -- China said today it is imposing new regulations to control content on its news Web sites and will allow the posting of only "healthy and civilized" news.

The move is part of China's ongoing efforts to police the country's 100-million Internet population. Only the United States, with 135 million users, has more.

The new rules take effect immediately and will "standardize the management of news and information" in the country, the official Xinhua News Agency said today.

Sites should only post news on current events and politics, according to the new regulations issued by the Ministry of Information Industry and China's cabinet, the State Council. The subjects that would be acceptable under those categories was not clear.

Only "healthy and civilized news and information that is beneficial to the improvement of the quality of the nation, beneficial to its economic development and conducive to social progress" will be allowed, Xinhua said.

"The sites are prohibited from spreading news and information that goes against state security and public interest," it added.

While the communist government encourages Internet use for education and business, it also blocks material it deems subversive or pornographic. Online dissidents who post items critical of the government, or those expressing opinions in chatrooms, are regularly arrested and charged under vaguely worded state security laws.

Earlier this month, a French media watchdog group said e-mail account information provided by Internet powerhouse Yahoo Inc. helped lead to the conviction and 10-year prison sentence of a Chinese journalist who had written about media restrictions in an e-mail.

As part of the wider effort to curb potential dissent, the government has also closed thousands of cybercafes -- the main entry to the Web for many Chinese unable to afford a computer at home.

Authorities in Shanghai have installed surveillance cameras and begun requiring visitors to Internet cafes to register with their official identity cards.

The government also recently threatened to shut down unregistered Web sites and blogs, the online diaries in which users post their thoughts for others to read.

KIM SOMERVILLE - MY PERSON OF THE WEEK!!!!!!

Oppsss I almost forgot my person of the week.

kim

I’m still having a difficult time choosing one but I found one!!!!

My person of the week is Kim Somerville Manager of the Back Door Bar on Rothesay Avenue.

vt7
vt6
vt5

A few weeks ago, she announced that the VLT’S were out the door.

vt10

The reason she gave was that too many families were going through a lot of hardship because of these dreadful machines.

vt8

The Lord Government don’t care so what can we do?

Charles 04_07_05 072

Bernard Lord told the audience on Voice of the Province last week that he told Mr.Volpe to find 20 million dollars.

Charles 04_07_05 056

Where is he going to find the extra money?

I heard they might installed VLT’s right at the bar.

You won’t have to get up your seat? You will see the VLT’S on the counter of the bar.

That’s what they do in Las Vegas!

Sad….it’s over in this Province until the Lord Government are remove from office.

In the meantime, people like Kim Somerville should be congratulated for a job very well done.

They took the time and taught of the families!!!!

Good work Kim!!!!

ROGERS TELEVISION TO TELEVISE THE WHOLE SESSION AT THE NEW BRUNSWICK LEGISLATURE!!!!

rogers

Many people were disgusted of the fact that Rogers only televised question period in the Legislature during the past two years.

I was told that Rogers will cover the whole session from now on.

This is VERY good for New Brunswickers and the MLA’S in the House especially the ones in the opposition.

I remember the LNG debate.

LNG

Roly McIntyre, Abel LeBlanc and Stuart Jamieson spoke for hours against the LNG deal.

rolly
b8
stuart_jamieson

I walked into the Hansard office and asked for the transcript of the debate?

They told me that it would take months to gather all the information.

I was surprised, I received all the details of the debate in a matter of days.

They took into consideration that there’s no way in the world that the Irvings newspapers will print all the details and my blog was the only way for the public to know what was said.

You can read the debate attarget="_blank">Charles

Many MLA’S feels it’s very important to show the whole session in the Legislature so the voters in their riding know they are indeed fighting for the voters.

rogers

So? I say to Rogers - Good work!!!!

Now New Brunswickers will be able to see their MLA’S in action!!!!

Speaking of Rogers? I received this email this morning.

Charles,
