Following letter by Ms.Ratchford sums up quite well the way Lord Government is treating seniors and veterans. Veterans who fought Nazi and Hitler to keep the free world free. Now they have to fight idiots like Bernard Lord and Tony(phony)Huntjens.

Citizen demands change to nursing home policies

The following is an open lettter to Premier Bernard Lord and Family and Community Services Minister Tony Huntjens:

Two assistant deputy ministers signed a standard Family Contribution Policy document nine months ago (Jan. 3, 2005). It clearly states, "New Brunswickers are responsible for the cost and provisions of long-term care services to their family members." Nursing care and medical care are not paid for disabled persons and seniors in nursing homes in New Brunswick.

People are paying $4,000- $6,000 per month to be in a nursing home.

Under the Standard Family Contribution Policy, here's what this government tells the people of New Brunswick in regards to their home: • Page 10: "Real property (land and attached buildings) including principle residence, your home, is not considered in the financial assessment." • Page 6: "If the principle residence is transferred to a family member or to someone else within two years of the client requesting or requiring government subsidy, any future net proceeds from the sale of the principle residence within two years from the date of transfer are considered in calculating the amount of client contribution. If the principle residence is transferred and rented during that twoyear period, 75 per cent of the rental income is considered as part of the client's home." Therefore, the principle residence is not totally exempt.

This government also includes cash surrender value of a nursing home patient's life insurance. How low can this government go in its treatment of frail, nursing home seniors?

I will call upon the federal minister of health, Ujjal Dosanjh, the provincial opposition, Shawn Graham and the taxpayers of this province to demand major changes in the nursing home policies in New Brunswick.

In new Brunwick, we must stop cheating our seniors and start paying for health care in nursing homes.
