Smoking ban blamed as VLT profits dive

Revenue from video lottery terminals in New Brunswick declined last year, in part because of the province's ban on smoking in bars and restaurants, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation says.
The lottery corportation's 2005-06 annual report shows that money generated by VLTs fell by almost $8 million, or six per cent, from the previous year.
ALC spokesman Robert Bourgeois said a province-wide smoking ban imposed in October 2004 was one of the major reasons for the decline.
"There were other factors as well, such an increase in competition from unregulated internet sites," Bourgeois said Friday. "But definitely, the smoking ban would have been one of the factors."
The ALC reported a profit of $394 million in the report released Friday.

Story says ban on smoking in the bars caused the problem.
story says that everyone must jump in the river.
All I can say to this story is "good".
What kind of roll - cinnamon or dinner?
Tim Smith should have at least used a dictionary when he made his protest signs.
Here's what you say to the clowns on here always talking about your grammar...you're acadian right charles? Ok.
When they can speak French as well as you can speak English, TELL THEM TO COME BACK ON THE BLOG and let you know and prove it. I can't speak French at all, maybe just enough to get by.
If I had to do a whole blog in French it would be awful.
Tell them all that.
Or maybe I just did.
This is just stupid.
You're moderating your comments charles. Are you a fool for punishment.
ENough of these people already. Get them off this site once anf for all. All your other readers will be happy, we won't miss them.
DON'T PRINT THE COMMENTS WE DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM!
Sure, freedom of speech is one thing, but these idiots are always re-hashing the same stuff day after day.
Using an online dictionary is pretty easy. We know Charles used to 'just post it and send it', but he's doing far better than he used to be.
If you want to get rid of the mean spiritness (which is the price you pay for letting people post), then do a blog and make it policy that people are free to correct the grammar and spelling mistakes. That way, if somebody posts something mean spirited, we can just tell them to do something constructive and correct it.
I've read Charles column before and it's clear that he is capable of writing without spelling or grammar mistakes. If the aim is to get press credentials and if Charles is really the "writer and editor" then quite simply, he should do some editing. Otherwise he is just the writer with NO editing.
It was said before to Charles to simply stop reading the comments. If it gets you that angry then there are couple of options. Set up a website and don't allow comments at all. Or just ignore them. If you're going to start restricting comments based on 'ones you like' then there aren't going to be many, and they will be so dull nobody will want to read them anyway.
So again, IGNORE the comments section Charles, you've got enough to do, and when you react like that, then it just makes them want to post more because when you get worked up, you make bad decisions and get pretty shrill.
Spelling is not a big deal though, an acadian can be expected to make mistakes. Anybody who makes a big deal out of it should just be ridiculed. That guy was so dumb he actually thought 'roll' was in the sign and that it was Tim's fault!
But if you want to be taken seriously as a blogger, then basic spelling isn't too much to ask. That isn't nitpicking, the point is that people should be free to criticize YOU as well Charles. If you claim to 'speak for New Brunswickers', then New Brunswickers have the right to demand that you do it as well as possible. If you just want to speak for yourself, well, nobody would care.

It looks like you're the "dumb" one. The post was talking about "roll" in the blog title AND the spelling and grammar mistakes on Tim Smith's protest sign hanging around his neck in the picture which was indeed Tim's fault.
I guess you are the dummy, please post where the grammar mistakes are on Tim's sign.
If you can't find the mistake, why should I point it out to you?
Could you at least find the spelling mistake all by yourself or did someone have to show it to you?
Ooo, he missed an L, gee, we should string him up. Most likely he just couldn't fit it on a sign. Congratulations on being the winner is our 'way too much time on his hands' contest.

If you don't like the site, why not do us all a Favour And just Shut up and get lost.
Couldn't find the mistake in grammar?
As to the title question, I doubt he did. Most VLT addicts did not reduce the playing they did after Tim's efforts.
