Schools address teenage anger

Students need societal skills

By John A. DeMember CORRESPONDENT
Picture

Gardner High School Principal Michael R. Baldassarre stresses the importance of teaching anger management.

Albert Mercado, a Clinton High School guidance counselor, has seen a lot of angry teens over the years.

Recalling one 16-year-old who arrived at Clinton High from Florida a few years ago, he said, “When he got angry, he got angry, and he didn’t know how to control it.”

Soon after arrival, the student had an altercation in the community. He resisted arrest and faced a charge of assault and battery on a police officer. But after completing a mandated 10-step anger management program, he was successful at Clinton High School and is now in college.

“He learned how to calm down and relax,” Mr. Mercado said. “He recognized his triggers.” He also learned how to talk to people effectively and appropriately, and how to be a leader.

Anger management has become a major concern in Massachusetts school systems, according to state and local officials. More than 10,000 students participated in anger management support groups in Massachusetts public schools in the 2003-2004 school year, according to the state Department of Public Health’s Essential School Health Program Data Report for that year. The groups provided anger, conflict and violence management support for youths.

“These groups were only available in 32 percent of districts,” the report notes, but there were more students participating in the anger management groups than in any other type of support group, including emotional/psychosocial support groups, which were available in 50.5 percent of school districts.

Districts that do not provide anger management support groups, including Worcester, often use other types of programs to help angry youths and teens.

Worcester, for example, provides after-school anger management and conflict resolution classes in its secondary schools as an alternative to suspension for less serious aggressive acts and as a requirement for re-entry to school after a suspension for violent behavior, said Judith Thompson, coordinator of counseling psychology and community outreach at Burncoat High School.

Alison B. Ludden, a professor of adolescent development at the College of the Holy Cross, said there are a number of possible causes for teen anger. She noted that stressful life events that are beyond the teen’s control, such as divorce, moving or other major transitions may lead to teen anger issues. Other factors include lack of support, difficulty in school or conflict with loved ones.

“Anger management self-help groups may be the key to helping adolescents effectively cope with their problems and emerging anger,” she said.

“I don’t think these are easy times to grow up in,” Ms. Thompson said. “They have a need to get these skills to cope with their negative emotions in a positive way.”

Noting that “anger management is the latest label for social skills training,” Ms. Thompson said many youths may not have matured enough to face increasingly complex life obstacles. “All we see in schools are a reflection of society,” she said. “Schools are a microcosm. They are public schools, so they reflect the public.”

Clinton High School Principal James S. Hastings said the problem is widespread.

“This is something that crosses all ethnic and economic classes,” he said, adding that the first defense against anger problems is the teacher.

“At Clinton, we have proactive teachers who have been able to intervene. The teachers see things and pick up on things,” he said. “When you know the students and they are having problems, you know how to defuse them.”

While only a court can order a student to attend anger management sessions, Mr. Hastings said school administrators can suggest it to parents, who then need to follow through to ensure a child’s attendance.

“We have kids in our school that haven’t done enough to go to court,” he noted. “In the cases I have had, the parents have been on the same page.”

Often that is because the parents have seen the same behaviors at home, Mr. Hastings said. Gardner High School Principal Michael R. Baldassarre said teaching students how to control anger is an important aspect of education.

“It is more important to teach the students how to get along with one another than to teach them how to read and write,” he said.

Indeed, a key determinant to a student’s success in life is his or her ability to deal with other people, Mr. Baldassarre said. Those who cannot control their emotions tend to have trouble holding jobs and meeting standards.

There is a great deal of focus on both accountability and standardized testing in schools, Mr. Baldassarre explained. As a result of the faculty’s intense concentration on curriculum, schools can only react to students’ anger, rather than being proactive. But in recent years there has been a drastic increase in what faculty and administrators take seriously, he noted. Violent drawings, threats and rumors that would have previously been overlooked are now investigated.

“The public knowledge (about) Columbine reinforces my increased efforts toward safety,” Mr. Baldassarre said. In 1999, two students killed 12 schoolmates and a teacher at Columbine High School in Colorado. The gunmen, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, then apparently killed themselves.

The real danger from anger problems among youth, as Columbine slayings showed, is that “anger can be much more instantly destructive with guns,” noted Francis “Tuck” Amory, a Worcester State College urban studies professor.

Mr. Baldassarre pointed out that students themselves are the first line of defense against potentially violent situations, but a code of silence among high school students can make learning about such potential problems difficult. “Relationships are everything” among teens, he said. It is the principal’s job to break the code of silence when it needs to be broken, in the interest of safety.

Evan P. Graber, director of outpatient services at YOU Inc., a social service agency based in Worcester, said there are many angry kids, but he sees a different reason for their anger.

“There is a crisis in masculinity in our society,” he said. “We have ratcheted up the way men and boys need to prove their masculinity.”

He added, “We need to look at who is doing the school shootings, battering, road rage and murder suicides — men and boys.”

Unrealistic depictions of how a man is supposed to act leads to the ridiculing of school boys who do not live up to that image, Mr. Graber said.

“A lot of these school shootings were done by kids that felt that they were picked on and were exacting revenge,” he said. “There is an assumption that there is only one way to be a man. God forbid if a boy is into poetry or theater.”

Slang phrases with implicit messages such as “Tough it out,” or “Suck it up,” create an emotional disconnect within males, he said. “There are multiple ways to being a man,” he said, and young people need to know that.

“Until it becomes important to men, collectively, we have a real problem in society,” Mr. Graber concluded.

Mr. Amory, who has been a licensed social worker for more than 30 years in addition to teaching at Worcester State, acknowledged that there are many angry high school students, but suggested that anger management programs may be just the latest trend for dealing with behavior problems.

“Anger management might be the new fad, like Hula-Hoops, or it could really help,” he said.

He noted that there is a financial incentive for schools to buy into the anger management trend.

“Essentially, the school gets paid a certain amount for every kid they have — and for every special ed kid, they receive considerably more,” he explained. “It was the same thing with attention deficit disorder. They were throwing Ritalin at everyone, even ones who clearly didn’t benefit from it.”

And there is yet another potential negative aspect to the anger management trend, according to Mr. Amory. When not managed appropriately, anger management classes can create a stigma for a student that is counterproductive.

“It can ultimately result in the labeling of kids as bad and deviant, and the teachers may avoid the student due to this label,” be said.

Claire T. Russell, director of children’s outpatient services at Community Healthlink of Worcester, said she believes that some young people who seem angry are not angry at all.

“When kids are overstressed, their behavior may be seen as anger,” she said. “Assessment is so critical.”

Mr. Graber, of YOU Inc., agreed that stress can lead to bad behavior.

“The pressures of school achievement, sports and over-scheduling put a lot of stress on kids, and one way the stress comes out is frustration and anger,” he said.

I DON'T KNOW IF PEOPLE IN FREDERICTON ARE TOUGH OR CRAZY?

I noticed living in the Capital that people will wear shorts early in the spring or late in the fall.

Yesterday, it was snowing pretty heavy and take a look at the guy on your right?

LOW DOWN JERKS BREAKS INTO THE FREDERICTON SOUP KITCHEN!!!

Picture 224
Charles 04_07_05 091

While walking from Church this morning, I noticed a woman with her head down standing against a building near the sidewalk.

Picture 075

I said - What are you doing? Panhandling?

She told me that she was sad!

I replied - What for?

She told me that the Fredericton Soup Kitchen has been broken into and they stole $10,000!

I just couldn’t believe it!

Afterwards, a few people approached me asking if I heard the news?

Many people were very hurt by this break in.

Myself, I don’t go at the Soup Kitchen at noon but this time around I flew to that area.

I know how stories can change and like a good blogger? I had to get all the facts!

Once there, I noticed more people than usual standing outside.

I guess anyone who heard the news came rushing to the helpful site.

Once inside, I confronted the cook with my questions?

He wasn’t in a good mood. He looked tired and was really hurt that some people would break into a Soup Kitchen.

He was puzzled that I heard $10,000?

From what I’m told?

They broke into this window.

Picture 235
Picture 229

They went on to force this door open.

Picture 233

Once inside, they made a hole through the wall and continue in the back!

Once there, they pried open a little safe.

They weren’t done yet. They ripped the two surveillance Cameras off the walls and broke into an office.

Picture 231
Picture 230

I guess this morning he was really upset with this break in and who can blame him? Bad weekend for George and the poor.

One worker told me that he has been around for 7 years and this is the first time this ever happen!

One homeless guy shouted - The police would catch the one
responsible before tomorrow night.

Picture 237

If those Jerks used the Soup Kitchen in the past? Well? If I was these individuals? I would leave town fast! How much money was stolen? I’m not sure but there’s thousands of dollars in damages.

The poor are being help a lot by this organization and some jerks go out of their way and breaks in to steal from the less fortunate poor.

We do indeed live in a very sad world.

Since this is the Information Highway and God’s knows who reads this blog?

If you care to help in this shameful act?

You can call George at 1- 506 - 457-1788.

Any outsiders wish to help?

IT WAS PANIC TIME AMONG THE POOR IN FREDERICTON BUT NO MEDIA COVERAGE!!!

Picture 026, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

Remember a few months ago when all Government employees went nuts when their money wasn’t in the bank?

Jeannot Volpe had to appear in front of the media to calm the situation.

Charles 04_07_05 056

Well? The same action happened this week but no one heard a whisper.

This is the time of the month when the poor people gets their monthly check.

It’s not much but it pays the rent.

The checks were suppose to come in on Wednesday but they never came.

Among the poor families, it was panic time!!!!!

Myself, I wasn’t too concern but the story was that two mail bags were directed to Moncton by mistake.

Thursday came and everyone was at the window waiting for their checks.

Picture 024

Hey? Some of them got bills also.

The caretaker came to my room and told me that everyone got paid but me!!!

I still didn’t get excited until Friday.

Late in the afternoon, I still didn’t get a check.

I asked around the City and there still a few who didn’t get their money.

So therefore it wasn’t someone from Family Services playing a dangerous game with this activist.

I walked into Family Services and once again, I was directed to the open cubicles.

Picture 047

I hate those thing!!!

It’s a place to degrade you that you don’t go there again!

Picture 048

My case worker knows exactly how I feel about those set up but she always tries to calm me.

She told me that the phone has never stop ringing since Wednesday from people wanted their money!

I reminded the case worker that I am a roomer therefore if I don’t get my cheque? I will be evicted because I have no rights!!!

She knows my caretaker but she gave me a card to give to the landlord if there’s any problem!

Now? Get this??? If I don’t get my check by Tuesday?

I will have to go at the Police station to fill up a stolen report!

I take it to my case worker and just maybe? I’ll get a check by Friday!

Question? The media is quick to cover a story about the rich not getting paid but when it comes to 1,000 poor individuals not getting their cheques?

It’s no big deal!

Sure makes a person wonder????

HUGE GOLD OR DIAMOND MINE WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED NEAR SAINT-QUENTIN????

Picture 027, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

Here’s a new story that you’ll never read or hear in the media.

During my six months protest in my tent in front of the Legislature? I’ve met thousands of citizens from all walks of life.

I came across Andre who lives at the Shelter.

He told me an interesting story and I told him that I would used it in my column in the River Valley News.

Almost three years later, he still say the same story.

I invited the guy over my place and told him to hit the keyboard with his story.

You might find it a little confusing but if Gold or Diamond are discovered in his area?

He’s on record in predicting this claim.

Here’s his story in his own words. Enjoy -

Before I begin my little story? I just wish to let the readers know that I have been alcohol and drug free since 1991!!!

Diamond or Gold Mine discovery by spraying tap water outside < hydrogen >
It could be called Well of light in scientific term the elderly could called it Eldorado
My parents asked me to wash the vehicule outside on Sunday morning in October 1996.

After the sun or moon eclipse has occurred.

On that particular day was a changing of hour and the day after my oldest daughter birthday on October 12 1996.

The date of the discovery was October 13 1996.

I say that it was her birthday present since I could not buy her a gift.

People have tried to find the color from my children and tried to ignored me but truly I was the one spraying water and showing my two daughters this natural phenomena that only appear every hundred years and once in a lifetime.

This should not appear before the next three generations.

Nobody is willing to pay anything for documentation or plan but want the property so the plan will be on internet for approbation that I will produce in a short amount of time which is what I have seen with my two eyes.

When I was finish?

I wash the parking lot and my two daughter were present.

I sprayed the youngest one for fun and hit her in the eyes so I moved the water jet up and noticed three colors rainbow on top of her.

The white color was liked burning magnesium in laboratory.

The colors were white, yellow light and blue light like the salt you used in Fredericton but the color is blue light on snow. Or if you preferred like Saint Andrew cross.

Next I bought my two daughters beside me close to the corner of the house and went onward following the path of the rainbow and then color green start to enrolled down like a carpet about four inches wide and then about five feet or eyes level.

Also red appeared and did the same picture.

Afterwards the royal navy blue appeared and followed by a bright yellow gold.

I told my children - Lets go back at the beginning and follow the three color rainbow.

As I spray water on top of the colors, I saw an spinning white wave all along on top of the colors and there was also a cloud like the five cent American.

We proceeded to follow the rainbow going up from the ground and it was making a spin on top of it.

It then changing direction 90 degree making a complete rainbow touching the ground and then making a pointing arrow.

The time was 12:20pm.

There was no cloud that day and we could see the moon.

There was an asteroid in the sky following the next few days.

The next day, I blessed the location with a sword dated 1940 and it was written Legetimus number 1250.

In those days, I was a C.I. officer of R.C.A.C.C. < Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps > after talking to captain savage I lost my post.

There were two witnesses present – My daughter < Maggie > and my other daughter < Kim >

The reason I blessed the site was because in my view. I believe in god and I am sure that god did see that I did discovered the site. < a platinum Gold or Diamond mine >

The area was at 101 and 103 Canada street in Saint Quentin.

The well of light is half on 101 and the other half on 103.

When I was young at elementary school the teacher explain to us whoever makes the discovery will receive some help and there was money to help the family who make the discovery.

Thia would help make the expertise and exploitation of the mines.

I went to university in 1974 – 1975 in pure science and study pure science.

One day we study the property of the hydrogen of water and the demul tiplucation of number 2.

They say that at the approach of millennium was propice to discovery and also that the year has to finish by sixteen and that the particular of this is that it only happen every hundred years .

People say that I was crazy and try to put me behind close door.

I have met a doctor specialize in nuclear physics or chemistry which retuned me home.

Some people say I was crazy.

I have received many treath against me and my children.

This particular this discovery is beyond imagination. Only person that study high advanced science will probably understand.

My teacher at university were Father Leblanc, dr. Francis Weil and Mr.Vanbruge.

All the people I have asked for help did not help.

I have talk with Ron Shaw from Hugh John Fleming and say if I was right will call me back so he did call back and ask me about the property and to make plan so I send the information to him but never receive help.

After receiving many treaths.

I went to the recruiting center officer Mr Ouelette and say he will help if he can.

This discovery could be related to uranium radioactive material or plutonium it make so long I did not study.

The night of the discovery there was a helicopter at night on top of the house.

Another day there was a black plane mat in color riding on Canada street at low altitude.

There has been a big explosion in the summer giving a bright light through the house.

Some people in Saint-Quentin that teaches science say that it was a miracle.

He asked me on the phone if the first color was green?

I have lost my sleep and have very special power in my eyes.

I looked at a dog and he turns his head not to look at me or sometime want to follow me and leave his master.

I am the person that send a message to France university e=mc2 but the person helping me on the computer sign his name to protect me but criss cross me.

A lot of people indicate the wrong direction of the mine since the arrow is pointing west and they indicate always East.

Yours truly and always devoted Joseph Andre Quimper authorize to be program by Charlie leblanc

Threats lead to armed standoff
Residents evacuated, neighbourhood cordoned off

(Photo submitted by Brian Robichaud)
Emergency Tactical Services team members of the Saint John Police Force respond to a Boyd Street apartment where a man was holed up inside. He was to be evicted, but threatened to use a firearm if officials tried to evict him.
By Bobbi-Jean MacKinnon
Telegraph-Journal

A Saint John man, who was scheduled to be evicted from his North End apartment on Friday, kept police at bay for more than five hours, threatening them with a firearm.

About 15 officers responded to the scene, including several members of the Emergency Tactical Service (ETS).

They evacuated the six-unit apartment building on Boyd Street and cordoned off the area at McKenna Crescent and Davenport Avenue.

Residents of the surrounding apartments and townhouses, commonly known as Rockwood Court, were advised to stay in their homes or at least use their back doors.

But some were standing on their front doorsteps and peeking out windows, trying to figure out what was going on in the neighbourhood they describe as friendly and quiet.

Many were worried about the safety of their children, who were due to arrive by school bus between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

The man, who is in his 30s, was taken into custody without incident at about 3:30 p.m., said Staff Sgt. Glen McCloskey.

He was transported to the Saint John Regional Hospital for a psychiatric assessment.

A firearm was seized from the apartment, but Staff Sgt. McCloskey declined to say what type.

No one else was in the apartment where lace curtains and angel ornaments were hanging in the window.

The man could face firearm and threat-related charges, he said.

The incident started about 10 a.m. when a "distraught" man called 911. "There was reference to having some problems," said Staff Sgt. McCloskey. "And there was mention of a firearm."

The man was threatening police and the deputy sheriffs who were trying to evict him.

ETS, a specialized team that provides tactical response to high-risk incidents, was called in. They were served pizza and bottled water, suggesting they expected the situation to drag out.

A negotiator set up in an apartment across the street, maintaining contact with the man by telephone.

An ambulance and a emergency medical services vehicle were also on the scene.

The deputy sheriffs were advised to stay away.

Sheriff Frank Crilley declined to say why the man was being evicted.

Property owner and manager, Killam Properties, declined comment.

Officials at the rentalsman's office could not be reached.

Victor Vasquez, who lives in the apartment building where the man was holed up, was taking a shower about 10 a.m. when police knocked on his door, telling him to get out.

"They just said it's not safe," he said. "They never said why."

Mr. Vasquez went to a nearby neighbour's house to wait. His wife, Mary, was at work and his children, Chris, 12, and Victor Jr., 11, were attending Princess Elizabeth School.

He said the man only moved into the building about five months ago and lives with a woman and a couple of children.

He described the man as "loud," saying he plans to move next month after two-and-a-half years, largely because of him.

Stephanie Land, who lives in another apartment building on Boyd Street with her husband and two children, was shocked when she came outside and a police officer met her on her front steps.

"He said, 'Come on, come on' " and escorted her outside of the barricaded area. "I didn't even see the cop cars. I didn't know anything was going on," said Mrs. Land, whose mother was picking her up.

The officer told her to stay off the street and to use her back door. She left for a while and came back, hoping it would all be resolved.

"It makes me nervous," she said, while waiting to meet her eight-year-old son Keiffer at the bus stop on Davenport Avenue. She normally lets him walk home with his friends.

Police officers had planned to escort all of the school bus children to their homes, she said, but Keiffer has epilepsy and she was worried being greeted by a uniformed officer might trigger an episode.

Michelle Melanson, who lives on McKenna Crescent, didn't know what was going on either. "I thought there might be a bomb or something.

"It's freaking me out a bit," she said, sitting in her car, listening to the radio crackle with news of the standoff, hoping to find out more information.

"I have a seven-month-old baby inside sleeping."

"It's kind of unnerving," agreed neighbour Melissa Jamieson, who has two children, aged six and eight. "They just said, 'it's a situation.' "

Once the man was taken into custody, deputy sheriffs proceeded with the eviction, overseeing the locks being changed, said Mr. Crilley.

"It's scary sometimes," he said, noting that sheriffs do not carry firearms. "You never know when you go to somebody's door what you're going to receive.

"With the attitude of some people today and the amount of drugs and alcohol involved, it can be a very dangerous situation."

2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

Q----"What Would It Take To Make Your Mom Perfect?"

1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some
kind of plastic surgery.

2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

Q----"If You Could Change One Thing About Your Mom What
Would It Be?"

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean.
I'd get rid of that.

2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my
sister who did it and not me.

MOTHER SIDE OF STORY OF BEING EVICTED AND CUT OFF FROM NEW BRUNSWICK FAMILY SERVICES!!

Ok Charlie, You wanted the story... here it is.

On or about December 1st, a new neighbor moved in the apartment underneath my children and I.

Since that time I have received many phone calls from workers of Fredericton Rentals following up on complaints of this one woman.

I have lived in this building for over 3 years and it wasn't until last year about Christmas time that we were having the same trouble with previous neighbors.

Just to give a brief on my last neighbors, there was a couple living underneath.

One went to work through the day and slept through the night while the other stayed up all night and slept all day.

I have two children, one of them with Asperger's Syndrome (mild autism) who was only diagnosed approx. 8 months ago.

My children at that time were causing some noise, but they are only 6 and 4 years of age.

I certainly didn't find that the noise was excessive at that time.

Especially since my son is in school and gone for most of the day, (till 2:00 PM) and my children go to bed by 7:00 PM every day.

My children are also not allowed to play with trucks or anything with wheels to run across the floor, they are not allowed to jump or run.

However they do tend to test that rule every now and then, they are children after all, they receive time outs for that behaviour and it stops shortly after.

After we got notices (3 all at the same time) we got the rentalsmen involved.

I also went to the media to cover the story, and had my other neighbors who lived around me to write letters in our favour stating that our noise level was not excessive.

We won our case and were permitted to stay.

This time around, the complaints are not so much about the noise level of my children, more so the noise complaints about me and my daily living.

The first complaint came at 11:50 PM, I was watching the news with my ex-husband, and it was at a low level.

One of the workers from the building came to my door at this time and knocked.

I had my 4 year old daughter sleeping in my lap, and my ex husband opened the door to find the worker at the door following up on the complaint and he asked if that was the level of noise that we were making, he noticed my daughter who was sleeping on my knee and said that the complaint was unfounded, and left.

I again received a notice stating that I was vacuuming at 10:30, which I thought was strange as I don't even own a vacuume with a motor, I have a carpet sweeper that has no motor.

It also stated that I scream and yell till 11:00PM.

Which seems extremely odd, cause my children are in bed by 7:00 pm and I live alone, I don't understand who I'm screaming at when the only one here is myself.

I also had a complaint about my children playing with another friend oneday.

This is probably the only day that I could agree there was noise.

The kids were a little excited and loud, and after speaking to the landlord who was following up on the complaint, I asked my friend to take her child and leave.

I then received a notice stating that my kids were "not to have their friends over again" so, we have not had other children in since that incident.

My mom was here sweeping the sand up off the floor by my front entrance when we heard loud banging on the floor from the neighbor underneath complaining that the sweeping was too loud.

This was at 4:00 in the afternoon.

I have also had a lot of banging up on my floor and phone calls over watching tv, or running bath water.

One time my mom was here and completely shocked as the level of the tv was so low that we could hardly hear the program we were watching.

However my mother's personal favourite story was the evening that she and I were watching a show on CNN and we received a call about yet another complaint that there was screaming coming from my apartment... again, the complaint was unfounded.

My children were at their dad's on a weekend visit, it was only my mother and I at my residence.

I have also had other guests who can verify that there was no noise at the time of either banging on my floor or phone calls from workers in the building following up on complaints of noise.

I have asked all the workers from my building what I'm to do?

They have all commented that this girl is over sensitive and "weird" and they have told me that she even complains about the furnace room and noise coming from that which nothing can be done about.

They all suggested taking the bass and treble out of my television all together.

I only own a 27 inch. It's not a floor model, or a big screen, but I followed their advice just the same.

Then on February 27th, my landlord knocked loudly on my door.

I went and opened the door with my 4 year old daughter at my side, my son was at school.

He was there with one of the workers from the building.

He handed me an envelope telling me that I had to move that he was getting threatened and told that If I didn't move, she would and he couldn't risk that.

All the while my daughter is listening to him tell us we have no home, and all the while the worker with him was looking behind his shoulder mouthing the words.. "I'm so sorry".

I was later approached by a different worker from the building who stated that I should fight it cause the complaints of disturbance were all unfounded.

They had all said that they suggested at the meetings that the floors are very thin and that installation should be shot up between the floors and that it would help with the sound.

I also can hear my neighbors noise... I can give you a play by play on the selection of songs that she plays on a daily basis, and I can also tell you what tv programs that she enjoys and some of the things that she talks about with her guests and in phone conversations she has had.

Some mornings when she coughs, it sounds as if she's right in my own bedroom.

I believe the solution was to fill in between the floors with installation to see if it helped.

My children and I have also moved into my bedroom for the most part and have lived like prisoners locked up in a small space to watch tv and eat our meals there so not to disturb the lady underneath.

A lot of the workers from around the building all agree that the floors are thin and this should be tried first.

They also all agree that the next tenant will have the same trouble as this is an NB housing unit and a family building.

I was given the notice on February 27th, and it says that I must be out by no later then March 28th.

As a result of this eviction, not only do my children not have a home, my son will have to change schools which seriously concerns all of the schools people who have been working very hard with my son to help him have a successful school year.

They are concerned that an uproot and change of school in the middle of the year would cause great damage to my son as routine and structure is important in his success with his Asperger's Syndrome.

It also puts me at risk for ever being able to get a transfer with housing as once this occurs, you are seen as a risk and do not get another unit.

I have also received a call from my worker stating that my assistance is being surpressed until I find another place to live which is difficult as with rents being as high as they are, I am not able to find a decent place to live.

I have looked into one bedrooms, however have been told that with two children of the opposite sex I need by law a 3 bedroom apartment.

I am not someone who is just trying to take advantage of the system.

I am involved in work placements which is helping me work toward a lower tuition in the fall where I am enrolled in a course to get out of the system.

It seems that the harder I try... the worst things seem to get for my children and I.

I don't know what will happen to us now.

With only 3 weeks to go, and nowhere to live, I am extremely panicked and worried about my current situation and I am at a loss of what to do.

Any suggestions are helpful. Thank you.
