HERE IN NEW BRUNSWICK? BOARDERS OR ROOMERS HAVE NO RIGHTS!!!

Here in New Brunswick? A roomer or boarder have no rights whatsoever.

Picture 011

A landlord or a caretaker can collect your rent and have you evicted the next day.

A person will be sent to the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission, the police or write a letter to the editor.

The person will have one hour to leave the building and there’s no where to turn!!!!

This picture says it all!

You grabbed the items you have in your possession and leave the building.

Ever tried to pack up and move in one hour???

Picture 012

There’s no government agencies to turn to for help.

This picture was taken last week and I might add that the girl wasn’t evicted from her place but I just had to take this picture.

This photo says it all!!!

But I was told tonight that something might be done in the near future.

For the most part I agree with you about the living conditions of most of the rooming houses. But what about the one or two who may be concern about the people who live in the rooming house that they are superintendants of? Take for example 75 Carleton Street. The previous supers were more concern about themselves than those who lived there but now that has all changed. The current super is a warm-hearted,caring woman. She truly cares about every single person that lives there. There are a few that she takes care of, which really is not part of her job. If any of the tenants needs someone to talk to all they need to do is say that to her and she will make time for them. There is usually no waiting either. She has taken the time to get to know each and everyone of the people who live there. She even will make phone calls to help those who need the help. There is one person who lives there that has been waiting for months for approval for full disablity and low-income housing. She has made a number of calls to the person who is supposely looking after the matter about the housing for her tenant. So far the woman has not return any of her calls. She has also helped a number of her tenants, who had no doctor, find a place that will see them. She may prove to be the exception to the rule but I for one thank God that she is the super of the building.

You have all the rights afforded to anyone else - just not any special rights.

Go read the website at vivenewbrunswick.com I think the poster above was just somebody who was bored and doesn't care, but if not, then you are completely wrong. Roomers and boarders have NO rights under the Residential Tenants Act. Obviously we are not talking about rights which are covered elsewhere, you can't physically assault them.

Although under the legislation you COULD assault them so long as you were the super or owner then tell them if they told anyone they would be evicted.

To the other poster, granting full rights to a group that doesn't have them has NO affect whatsoever on the really great owners and supers out there. My parents were owners of a duplex and they were fantastic landlords who often let tenants skip rent. Having rights doesn't mean you can't be nice, it simply means others can't be quite so mean.

Very well said and Brad Green told me that roomers wil have a place to complain to and this would be a huge step forward for the poor in this province.
