WILL BERNARD LORD MAKE UP HIS MIND????

Not in this century. It is an insult to backbenchers that Joan MacAlpine can run two departments while one of the backbenchers cannot even run one. Why can he not decide and give young MLAs a chance. In the meantime NBers are paying a price. We do not need a part-time Minister. MacAlpine has difficulty running tourism and now she is also given such a sensitive department as Family and Community Services.

let's not forget that Mckenna had taxpayers paying for more cabinet positions last time a liberal government was in. If anything taxpayers should be happy that the Premier is saving taxpayers money by having a minister run both departments. Although it is not fair for for the backbenchers to wait like this at least you can say that he is saving taxpayers money.

Anonymous said...

Very doubtful any money is being saved. Through poor management more money is wasted. A Minister is supposed to be a watchdog. Now we have part time Minister for two departments. Bernie cannot decide. NBers are the victims especially poorly run Family and Community Service. It is a shame.

Bernard Lord is too busy promoting himself that he has very little time for NBers. This country tour was part of that promotion. All at taxpayers expense. It is a disaster.

Typical hungry Liberal trying to get a negative message out.here is the message you have at LEAST 18 months til you get into N.B. and you will still have a minority government so you won't be able to run the country no longer.

Minority Government?? Lord will be wiped out in N.B. and his party will be history.

Wasn’t that a $26,000 party?

SHANNON HAGERMAN
dgleg@nb.aibn.com

NB Power spent more than $26,000 hosting a "white glove" reception featuring a couple thousand hors d'oeuvres, souvenir T-shirts and a $500 floral arrangement to toast the Point Lepreau refurbishment project.

The publicly owned electricity utility is defending the expensive event to officially kick off its $1.5 billion refurbishment contract with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.

The Sept. 13 reception involved an official tour of the nuclear plant by senior officials and a media news conference inside a rented tent outside the plant. The reception featured catered food and multi-media presentations.

Expenses incurred by the debt-ridden utility include: $8,377 for catering, $3,765 for a tent rental, $793 for three flower arrangements, and $1,647 for a professional photographer to record the occasion, according to invoices obtained using the Right to Information Act.

The utility also spent $3,165 to purchase 500 black T-shirts for employees to mark the project launch. Another $6,365 was spent on the rental of podiums, microphones, speakers, media boxes and one large-screen projector.

A local employee at Lepreau won a contest to design a logo for the project, but it still cost NB Power $2,346 to buy two signs to display the logo with the slogan "Powering the Future: Point Lepreau Refurbishment."

Besides local employees, the reception was attended by Premier Bernard Lord, NB Power CEO David Hay, officials from Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and Energy Minister Bruce Fitch.

Speeches from Lord, Hay and AECL officials happened inside the 40 foot by 80 foot rented tent where their images were broadcast on a large-screen projector.

The utility purchased three floral arrangements from a Saint John florist, one of which cost $500.

One newspaper that covered the launch labelled the event, "a powerful reception" and described employees in attendance as "jubilant."

The Delta Brunswick Hotel in Saint John was hired to provide "white glove service" by distributing the 2,400 hors d'oeuvres, 300 bite sized sweets and 300 fruit tarts, the invoice states.

The utility also served up seven gallons of coffee, specialty teas and fruit punch, the invoices reveal.

After the official reception was over, a late-afternoon boat ride was organized for more than dozen senior officials to view the nuclear plant from the Bay of Fundy. The boat was offered "complimentary" by a local boat owner, but the utility spent $457 catering the trip, which included 20 lobster salad sandwiches, soft drinks and chips.

Hay and Lord were among those who jumped aboard the "fishing" boat.

The total bill for staging the event was $26,458, invoices reveal.

The reception happened just a few weeks before NB Power announced it was asking the Public Utilities Board to approve an 11.6 per cent average rate increase effective April 1, 2006. The request would translate into a 14 to 16 per cent rate jump for residential consumers, if the board gives its approval.

The utility has already raised rates by 2.9 per cent in April 2004, followed by a three per cent increase in March 2005 and a three per cent rent increase in July 2005.

That was a Irving newspaper who cares your point is? Let's talk about the liberals hiring a man from Ontario at $100k of our taxpayers money, firing 6 emiployees who have payed taxes here in N.B. and bringing a guy in from Ontario who never payed taxes all to boost shawn grahams ego, how about that? So if the liberals are so concerned about power hikes why don't they cut a promoter of shawn graham's wage and give half of the province back 25cents. Shawn will divide this province just like he has his cacus and his staff

Anonymous said...

This is just $26000 party. Add to that $3 billion on Orimulsion. Did Lord ever screw this province?? It will take few decades to recover from all these disaster.

Anonymous said...

Lord has all the defeated politicians as his advisors. Loser surrounded by losers.

Anonymous said...

The fit for Orimulsion cost $295 million where do you get the $3billion from? To add in savings as a loss is tottally lame just like the liberal party is. Let's do the math on Chris? $100k a year plus expenses for 3 years equals $300,000. Which could have went back to taxpayers who worked in the liberal office but chris's investments are all in Ontario, his cars are bought in Ontario, he travels with N.B. money to Ontario. Shawn will screw province just like Mckenna did and leave it up to a conservative government to balance the books and do ALL the renovations yet once again. Liberals are losers who just think of themselves because they are so power hungry.

Anonymous said...

Why NB Power is suing Venezuela for $2.2 billion, last savings through Orimulsion. Colson Cove retrofit and legal fees over one billion. That adds up to over 3 billion. Lord was sleeping on the wheel. He should go back to selling used cars.

Anonymous said...

So then we can say Mckenna lost us $200 million cause he never signed highway agreement with feds? we can say that Mckenna signed loans when the intrest rate was 8% then droppped to 5% in the same month? Total liberal propaganda bottom line is your reign of lies are over your deficits are done and your power hungry days are gone.

Stop living in the past. Wake up. We are in the 21st century and NB is getting a rotten start under Bernie Lord.

Anonymous said...

nice reply just as a liberal would do never repeat the past cause you ruined at least the premier is making things right

Anonymous said...

Making it right? Taking us into a ditch. It is a shame that Bernie is Premier. He is disgracing the office of Premier. He must go back selling used cars.

Anonymous said...

nice reply the same as your 4:22 one. Let's talk about the leader of the Opposition. He is a social drunk shows up to parties, falls, stumbles and makes an ass of himself, Now there is a premier. Paying $100k a year for a boost to his pitiful ego while firing 6 born new brunswickers to rise his profile? shame that's what's pitiful. And to ask you what is wrong with being a used car salesman? Last time i remember one took out the deputy premier LOL get the facts.

Anonymous said...

What is Bernie doing travelling the world to raise his profile. France, Africa, United States. All at the taxpayers expense. Spending tens of thousands of dollars to go to Larry's Gulch and pay journalists with tax dollars to write stories about him. This man has wasted more tax dollars on self promotion than any other Premier in memory. Even Premier of rich provinces like Ontario does not spend that much. This man continues to waste our tax dollar. 1987 repeat is waiting for this idiot.

Anonymous said...

Nice reply let's not forget who started larry's gulch. what happend in 1987? i couldn't vote then, not a big deal it will never happen again people are not that stupid to let all liberals in power, nice try

Anonymous said...

You are right people are not stupid to buy damaged goods from Bernard Lord again as they did in 1999 and 2003. He got the taste of it in Saint John Harbour, despite the star candidate and all.

Anonymous said...

Listen 10:46-am, I'm sure the Saint John area would have benefitted by somebody who could have been appointed to the Caninet instead of just another Politician Elected to current Minorty Government.

Ok, your candiadate won, No denying that.

But has He set the World On Fire since winning ? I think not.

Anonymous said...

Bernard Lord is enough setting fires that he cannot extinguish. This province is a mess because of incompetent Bernard Lord. The man cannot make decisions. It is a shame. He will be gone soon.

Anonymous said...

To 11:39-am

Maybe be'll be gone in the next provincial elcetion, and then again Maybe he won't be gone.

But in the meantime for the Duration of his elected mandate, I'll have the satisfaction of being able to laugh at you, just knowing that it's bugging you that Bernard Lord is still our Premiere, and Ed Doherty is just another silent voice in the wilderness Who Can Do Nothing.

What say you now ?

Anonymous said...

The whole province is laughing at Bernie and may be the country. He is a joke. He thinks he is a big hot shot and only he does not know that he is history and nobody.

I think you go the last person on the Ropes Eat Crow, they must chocking on some of that eat crow.

They never even finished their posting. And that's because they know the Liberals are Done as well here in New Brunswick, the same way the Liberal Government will be done when the final Vote Count is finished the night of the Federal Election

Anonymous said...

Pot is calling kettle black. Bernie went to Saint John Harbour with all the pump and show. Star candidate. $50 plus million in promises. Nothing helped. Who is eating crow now. More coming your way after the federal election. Keep some appetite. There is a lot more crow coming your way. Enjoy!

Anonymous said...

I agree with 12:42-Pm, Even though Michelle didn't get elected, Bernard Lord has promised some great stuff to come to Saint John.

And let us not forget, the federal Liberals didn't do a thing to help out the Point Lepreau Nuclear Power Generating Plant, but the Lord Governmnet did ??

Ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh That one has Gotta Hurt ! Gotcha` now with that one Didn't I

Anonymous said...

$26,000 wasted on partying in Point Lepreau. Lord his own worst enemy. He gotcha himself. I know Lord and cronies are hurting about Saint John Harbour. Too bad. Sorry fellows. Have some molson beer with crow. How much was given for that $6 million tax dollars.

What do you know, when I Know It All from inside top level sources.

You ain't all THAT !!

Anonymous said...

Is desperation taking over. My condolences. Sorry but more bad news on the way. You remain inside your shell.

Anonymous said...

Listen here, I'm here to tell ya, Mr. Man

I just bet you were the One who was heading the Charge for Bernard to get elected the first time he got in on his Promise, Which by the way he kept, to Drop the tolls on the Highway.

That was the biggest thing people were hollering about back then. Just be glad, I'm not the Premiere because, I wouldn't give Saint John the time of day, after all he's done for the Port City even after one of his Candidates failed on their bid in the political arena.

I hope Moncton keeps getting it all, and Saint John remains what it's always been, the rear end of the Donkey.

I supported Bernie back then. He has proven to be untrustworthy. I am not the only one. Many Tories are disillusioned with him, too. It is downhill for him from now on.
